What’s stopping you? (myths dispelled!)

What do you think it is that separates a good swimmer from a poor one?

Or to be more specific, since “good” and “poor” are subjective, what is it that separates where you are now from where you want to be in your swim and/or triathlon?

Let’s take a look at the reasons that aren’t preventing you from making the gains you want:

  • You’re not strong enough. Swimming doesn’t require massive strength to improve.
  • You don’t have a swimming background. Nope! Many didn’t even start swimming until their 40s and 50s and have had success with our programs and elsewhere.
  • You sink when you swim. Yes, lots of people do, especially distance runners. But many of them have made huge breakthroughs in the water.
  • 11 year old kids and old ladies are passing you in the pool. Yep, this will happen, especially in the early stages of swimming in a pool to get your stroke technique right! Important to check your ego before getting in the water. 🙂
  • Deep water is terrifying to you. This is far more common than you may think. I’d say at least 30% of triathletes who come to us have this fear. Don’t worry- it’s 100% rational and 100% possible to be overcome!
  • You get out of breath after doing 1 or 2 lengths. This can seem overwhelming to beginners. But as your stroke improves and your cardio and breathing improve, this will quickly turn to 4, 6, 8, 20 lengths and beyond, it’s fun to see this kind of progress!

Okay this list can go on.

There are always reasons to think you “can’t” do something.

I challenge you to put them aside from here on. Realize there is a way.

We have had blind swimmers and one-armed swimmers attain success in our programs.

Why not you?
