There’s this saying that’s been floating around out there for a while now that you must put in 10,000 hours to acquire a new skill.
I think this came out of a book by Malcom Gladwell.
But this number is completely misunderstood.
It’s MUCH less than that.
Check out this 3 minute summary video and I’ll explain how this relates to you next: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isrgSDjrprg
So you want to go pro? Better start putting in the hours. What to be the best in the world? Even more hours.
But this is not the goal of anyone here. So the 20 number makes a lot more sense- to acquire the skill of swimming for triathlon. And according to the video, that takes about 45 minutes a day for a month.
Let’s say you only swim 5 times a week. You could acquire your new skill of fluid triathlon swimming in 6 weeks or even less.
You don’t have to be smart.
You don’t have to be athletic.
And you don’t need to make huge sacrifices.
And what better time than now? Fall (or Spring if you’re down under) is when things are changing. Leaves are changing colors, and here in the northern hemisphere, there is a shift from “in season” to “off season” in triathlon.
6 weeks from now is early November. For many of us, this is when the clocks change, and it becomes more difficult to cycle and even run consistently with the less daylight.
I encourage you, if you’ve been thinking about making a change to your swim, to get to your next level and improve your confidence and speed in the water, to jump in with our Tri Swim Success program.
Skip the 10,000 hours, and befriend the water!
